The Association's Mission Statement:

Open to all alumni, the UCSC Alumni Association is a membership organization whose programs foster a lifelong connection with the university. The purpose of the Association is to promote, influence and support the educational, cultural and social life of UCSC, and to provide a means by which alumni may both serve the university, its colleges, and its students, and to help guide the university in the future.

Yesterday and Today

The UCSC Alumni Association was organized in 1968 as a vehicle through which alumni could serve and promote the welfare of the university. Since then, the Association has grown to an organization with over 10,000 dues-paying members out of an alumni population of over 70,000.

Governance

The Association is governed by an elected board of volunteers called the Alumni Council. The governing body of the Alumni Association is the Alumni Association Council. The council is composed of thirty members. Twenty-four are graduates of UCSC and are elected.

The following eight people serve as ex officio, non-voting members: the chancellor, or designee, of UCSC; the immediate past president of the Association; the executive director of the Association; the president, or designee, of the UCSC Foundation; a member of faculty of UCSC designated by the chair of the Academic Senate; Graduate Students Association of UCSC; and the chair of the Student Union Assembly. The executive director is responsible to the Council for the conduct of the Association's activities.
